IN THE DESERTNatural senseHave you ever experienced nature? Have you ever heard nature? Have you ever smelled nature? Have you ever tasted nature? Have you ever seen nature? Have you ever felt nature? Have you ever felt nature with body and soul? Have you ever felt like you were part of nature? Have you ever been nature? These pictures I have taken during a 10-day hike in November 2016 through the desert in the south of Morocco. I hiked with a good friend of mine and we were accompanied by four Berbers and four dromedaries. Here, far away from any civilization and without mobile phones and the internet, I have been able to fully experience nature. During the day we wandered in the brooding heat and at night we wrapped ourselves in our thick sleeping bags so as not to freeze. During the day the desert was calm and only the wind and occasionally our own voices could be heard. At night we heard desert foxes visit our camp and the starry sky was littered with millions of sparkling stars. The taste and smell of dry sand were in the air all the time. In the beginning, in the face of this overwhelming expanse and beauty, I felt small and insignificant. But the desert was full of life and with time I felt more and more like a part of this world, as part of this little beautiful planet in the infinity of the universe. |

Have you ever felt nature? Have you ever felt nature with body and soul? Have you ever felt like you were part of nature? Have you ever been nature? During a 14 day stay in Norway in July 2017 I took the opportunity to see a glacier up close. It was impressive to see how the glacier has moved back and forth for decades. What power such a glacier has and how it shapes its environment. I could feel it, walk on it and explore it. I could hear the water rushing in and the ice crackling. As if I were moving on a living being. A being that has had a lasting effect on the look and, therefore, the living conditions on this planet. |
